Alfred Henry Haggis (1834 - 24 November 1891) was a businessman and local politician.[1]

Born in Clerkenwell, he entered work in 1850 as a clerk in a saw-mill. Marrying in 1855, he settled in Islington, having become mangaer and then proprietor of the saw-mill business in Blackfriars and Kings Cross. He subsequently moved to Thornton Heath, Croydon.

He took an interest in local government and administration, and was made an alderman on the incorporation of Croydon as a borough in 1883.

When the London County Council was created in 1889 he was elected to represent Southwark West. He took his seat as a member of the majority Progressive Party and served as deputy chairman of the council from November 1889 until his sudden death in an omnibus, travelling to a council meeting.
