The entire council is elected every four years with the most recent election being held on 3rd May 2018. The chairman and civic head of the council is Mayor of Barnet.

The council elected in 2018 consists of 63 councillors, three elected for each of 21 wards. The Conservative Party took control of the council which had been under no overall control since March 2018 following the resignation of one of their councillors.[1]
