Blackwell is a Docklands Light Railway (DLR) station in Blackwall, London, located in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, and is in Travelcard Zone 2. Opened on 28 March 1994, on the site of Poplar railway station.

History

The DLR station opened, with the Beckton Branch, on 28 March 1994, becoming the last stop before the western terminus of the new branch at Poplar before the line was extended west to Westferry.

The station was originally planned to be connected to the London Underground via the Jubilee Line extension to Thamesmead. This was authorised in 1990 but was replaced by diverting the line from Canary Wharf underneath the River Thames to serve the Greenwich peninsula at North Greenwich station and up to Stratford instead.[1]
