Born 14 March 1896 and died 24 March 1984.
Labour Party member of the London County Council from 1946-65: as an alderman until 1952 and a councillor for Deptford thereafter. Served as Chairman of the London County Council 1961-62.
A member of the successor Greater London Council (GLC): Lewisham 1964 – 1967, first chairman of the GLC 1964-66 and chairman of the Inner London Education Authority 1964-65.
