The Liberal Democrats are a political party. The party was formed in 1988 from a merger of the Liberal Party and the Social Democratic Party (SDP), who had formed the SDP–Liberal Alliance for the seven years prior.

They contest elections throughout Great Britain, and as of 2015 have members in the London Assembly, on London Borough councils and have a single member of parliament in Greater London, Tom Brake, who represents Carshalton and Wallington.
