Created 1900 by the London Government Act 1899 from Lee (Lee District) and Lewisham (Lewisham District), with a small section from Camberwell Vestry. It was abolished in 1965, becoming part of the London Borough of Lewisham, with the Metropolitan Borough of Deptford. The River Ravensbourne runs through it.
