Created 1900 by the London Government Act 1899, and abolished in 1965, becoming part of the London Borough of Tower Hamlets. It comprised the civil parishes of Bow, Bromley and Poplar, becoming a civil parish 1907. See also Poplar Rates Rebellion and Chrisp Street Market.
