Mauges[]

I'm pretty sure the surname of the 1943-44 mayor is wrong. 'Mauges' doesn't seem to be a surname at all. I believe it's an OCR error in a snippet view in Google Books. Haven't been able to find the name though. Lozleader (talk) 20:45, December 16, 2018 (UTC)

Using Free BMD using variants (switching 'g' and 'u', 'u' and 'n' and removing the 's') - there is a a Paul A M G Maugé seemingly marrying both a Terrade and a Chrisostome, given name Marie, in Westminster District December 1912 quarter. Jackiespeel (talk) 00:22, December 17, 2018 (UTC)

P V Mauger of 25 Ennerdale Road, Richmond. ... also a member of Surrey County Council. Phew!  Lozleader (talk) 12:56, December 17, 2018 (UTC)
Born in Jersey, married in Western Australia and lived in Wood Green before moving to Richmond. Seems to have gone backwards and forwards to South Africa. Not sure where or when he died! Lozleader (talk) 13:08, December 17, 2018 (UTC)
The other surnames were 'logical possibilities' - and can only go so far with Free BMD. Jackiespeel (talk) 15:09, December 17, 2018 (UTC)
FreeBMD is a great resource entirely created by volunteers so I'm not going to knock it. I also appreciate the sterling work you put in. transcription errors and weird OCR artefacts all make the 'game' more interesting. And to me it is a game, something I do in my down time. Yorkshire Mayors[]

Unfortunately we had at least two Richmond, *Yorkshire* mayors, now removed. Lozleader (talk) 16:51, December 17, 2018 (UTC)

Articles[]

Some of the mayors have enough information in the footnotes to justify creating articles for them. Jackiespeel (talk) 00:02, December 18, 2018 (UTC)

They're starting to just about reach "article event horizon". Incidentally all the Calvert H E Smiths in freebmd seem to be our man who married twice and moved to Bromsgrove. He was born on 13 December 1885 according to the 1939 Register but doesn't show up in England & Wales births. Lozleader (talk) 17:07, December 18, 2018 (UTC)
Ah, he shows up in the 1891 census as a six year old scholar in his grandmother's house in Isleworth. Listed after the servant. Born in Madras. He was still in his grandma's in the 1911 census but had moved above the servant as a twenty six year old solicitor. He seems to have married Bessie Smith in Richmond later that year. Lozleader (talk) 17:12, December 18, 2018 (UTC)
So, to avoid duplication of work, which of us shall do the articles (and identify the now missing mayor)? Jackiespeel (talk) 17:55, December 18, 2018 (UTC)
I don't mind having a go. I'm not sure what Robert Sinclair was a captain in, but his father was a Scottish master mariner. Lozleader (talk) 18:00, December 18, 2018 (UTC)
P.S. another weird and wonderful artefact of OCR gave Doreen Sinclair the unique Christian name of "Dorcan". Lozleader (talk)
Possibly the OCR had [2] in its list of words. Jackiespeel (talk) 18:14, December 19, 2018 (UTC)

C. J. Hartly[]

There was a dentist in Richmond named Christopher John Hartly during the relevant period. Lozleader (talk) 17:02, December 19, 2018 (UTC)
