Hello, do you mind if you did what I'm doing on the Transport side for West London and I will focus on East and North and the DLR? Could you lay it out the way I have done it in the page's I have edited?

Can you help[edit source]

Hi Jackiespeel, I see you are interested in local history.

I am trying to do the family history of my friend who was removed from her parents in 1943, we have traced them up until 1970 when they lived in Asker House Islington, but no further address, I understand that the road was redeveloped about that time and residents were moved away, are you able to tell me what borough that would have come under.

Also her father died in 1970 and postmortem was done by Coroner for Greater London, we cannot trace this coroner office or any buriel / cremation records, even paying for the cemeteries search in that area.

Are you able to help me in any of the above areas as I am living in Spain and unable to travel to london to do any archiving, we did attend the London Archives a few years ago and they were extremely helpful but we only got as far ar 1970 as there were no more cencus records from Asker House.

Many thanks,    pambardoe@hotmail.com

Rowland Hirst, thrice Mayor of  Stepney[edit source]

I noticed that Tower Hamlets archives didn't seem to have a portrait of his worship (not listed in "Your Paintings" at the BBC) and then I Googled him and as you will see from his article they probably disposed of it in shame! Lozleader (talk) 22:01, July 24, 2014 (UTC)

Transport in London Wikia[edit source]

Another interesting county councilllor[edit source]

Have just traced the details of John Chapman-Walker and it turns out he had an interesting wartime career in "cloak and dagger" stuff behind the Japanese lines! Lozleader (talk) 18:41, March 21, 2015 (UTC)

And an interesting change of career for one GLC member, Norman John David Smith, from master mariner to professor of dental radiology. One wonders what caused his epiphany. Lozleader (talk) 16:23, May 22, 2015 (UTC)
And there seems to have been considerable doubt about Stanley Rundle's doctorate. Lozleader (talk) 14:57, May 25, 2015 (UTC)

My interests[edit source]

You asked about my interests. Some you can see from the list of wikias on my user page. In general, I like to see serious wikis having good internal links and categorization so that users can find their way around easily. -- Robin Patterson (Talk) 02:55, July 27, 2015 (UTC)

Enabling InstantCommons[edit source]

This wiki would benefit considerably by having photos of London appearing without uploading. I've written about it elsewhere, e.g. London Wiki:Wikimedia Commons. It would be good for the wiki if you or another admin could ask Wikia staff to enable InstantCommons. -- Robin Patterson (Talk) 10:06, July 30, 2015 (UTC)

To be honest, Wikia should automatically activate this on every wiki. For one, it virtually eliminates redlinks for images. For another it provides access to hundreds of thousands of images, almost all of which are covered by their and our CC-BY-SA copyright. Finally, it is as simple as a request via Special:Contact, or, better yet, a message left on staffer sannse’s talk page. If you want to see it in action, it is active at Scratchpad. Thanks! :) — SpikeToronto 15:03, August 27, 2015 (UTC)
P.S. Click here for an example of commons in action: w:c:scratchpad:File:Ledblue.png. You can see from the details – and the presence of a create button! – that that file does not exist locally at Scratchpad. Yet, if you look at w:c:scratchpad:Special:WhatLinksHere/File:Ledblue.png, you’ll see that a template at Scratchpad uses that image. Since it is not locally on that Wikia wiki, but is over at commons, instead of seeing a photo placeholder on that template, you see the actual image, which means the template is not broken and works! Of course, in time, I’ll put a copy of the image on Scratchpad locally using the “I got this from Wikipedia or another Wikimedia project” option in the licensing pulldown list at Special:Upload. But, in the meantime, that template is not broken, and the length of the list at Special:WantedFiles is greatly reduced. Thanks! :) — SpikeToronto 15:25, August 27, 2015 (UTC)
P.P.S. When I look at London wiki’s list at Special:WantedFiles, I see that most of those would disappear within 24 hours of the WMF Commons image repository being activated at this wikia. :) — SpikeToronto 15:31, August 27, 2015 (UTC)

Additional wording[edit source]

I've added a sentence to Template:Wikipedia so that it invites readers to check the WP page for more info. You can now save yourself time by just using that template instead of adding a separate sentence. And we could do it all with just one click if an administrator changed one of those green template editing buttons to {{Wikipedia}}. -- Robin Patterson (Talk) 11:06, August 10, 2015 (UTC)

Wasting your precious time[edit source]

How many of your allegedly precious seconds did you take to add Based on the Wikipedia page [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/London_Underground_infrastructure]. to the Underground infrastructure page?

I told you I didn't mind you moving the wikipedia acknowledgment to the top of the page, though I pointed out that it would make more work for readers having to scroll more to see the page content. But what you have added is less informative than the standard acknowledgment as well as making readers scroll more than they would like.

You have used your very precious time making the wiki poorer, not better.

But you could have used just a couple of seconds with one click if you had been using the standard Wikia skin and some admin had spent a few more seconds changing the green jigsaw puzzle pieces as two of us have now suggested. You obviously trust User:SpikeToronto - make Spike an admin and see what improvements can be made without you having to spend even another second on those administrative matters you wouldn't mind seeing but say you haven't time for (though you have spent more time writing comments about some of them than it would have taken to do them).

re: Wanted Pages[edit source]

Hello. There are two ways to remove something from the Wanted Pages list. (1) Create the page, or template in this case. (2) Delete all links to the page. In the case of a template, you'll need to delete all "calls" made for the template. It looks like a lot of the templates are being called on 'Template:Navboxes/doc'.

If there are other templates that aren't being called from 'Template:Navboxes/doc', you can use Special:WhatLinksHere to find the pages that are attempting to call/use them. Be sure to select Template on the Namespace drop-down menu and insert the name of the template into the Page field. JoePlay WikiaStaff2.png (talk) 20:22, June 20, 2016 (UTC)

Yes, deleting a call (such as {{Template Name}}) to a template that (1) doesn't exist and (2) is not going to be created will not break anything. Like I said, a lot of those missing templates are being called by Template:Navboxes/doc, which is just the documentation template that gets displayed on Template:Navboxes. Looking more closely, I see that there is only one article that calls Template:Navboxes, which is Waterloo tube station (at the bottom). That area where the template is being called is just more links to pages that don't exist. If you do not plan to use Template:Navboxes, I would delete it (and Template:Navboxes/doc). Then edit Waterloo tube station to remove the call to the template. JoePlay WikiaStaff2.png (talk) 21:56, June 20, 2016 (UTC)
Just deleted the links to Template:Navboxes/doc so that it doesn't appear in "Wanted Pages" and we can all sleep at night. Hopefully. Lozleader (talk) 10:12, July 23, 2016 (UTC)

Hi, sorry, I don't have any areas of interest on this Wiki currently, sorry. I came on this wiki because it was one of the very first that popped up when I searched "Wikia" because I had an intent to just change up my profile, sorry. Kappochii (talk)

Inducting the London Wikia into the Lifestyle Hub[edit source]

Greetings, what about inducting this Wikia into the Lifestyle Hub? Maybe it gets some more attention and brings some more editors to the London Wikia. The german city wikis were already inducted into the German Lifestyle Hub. Cheers! --StephanieA2008 (talk) 08:57, September 25, 2016 (UTC)

Categories[edit source]

I agree with merging 'Category:biographies' is currently being used, could 'Category:real people'. I want to use wikitext in my signature- Boldmouse2 (talk). What are signatures? 17:33, March 23, 2017 (UTC)

'Biographies' is the more recognised term. (Will discuss other categories as and when they are needed.) Jackiespeel (talk) 22:07, March 23, 2017 (UTC)

Bus operators[edit source]

You was putting some routes previous operators when it is operated by a new operator. Stephanie Alikaj the Transport Lover 2007 (talk) 19:12, July 30, 2017 (UTC)

Redirects should rarely be deleted[edit source]

https://london.wikia.com/wiki/Adam_And_Eve_Mews was not an "unused" redirect. Like most redirects resulting from page moves, it remained in place so as to redirect anyone trying to re-create the article. Now some keen person may waste his or her time and yours creating another article by that name instead of being instantly transported to the correct article. --- Robin Patterson (Talk) 00:48, October 24, 2018 (UTC)

Haringey or Harringay[edit source]

Interestingly, as I was plodding through MCC members I discovered that, folllowing the absorption of S Hornsey into the County of London a new 'Haringey' Electoral Division was created. This name was regarded as suspect and incorrect by some writers as 'Harringay' was the 'correct' name. A few years later Tottenham's divisions were redeawn and a 'Harringay' Division created so there were county councillors for Haringey and Harringay at the same time. There were wards in the two UDs/MBs bearing those names with their prefered spellingds too. Lozleader (talk) 21:57, June 6, 2020 (UTC)
